She's Empowered Spotlight: Saphira of Nowhere Bakery

Meet Saphira, Founder of Nowhere Bakery! We've been fans of Saphira's for a long time now, and we are so thrilled to be featuring her in honor of Women's History Month! Be sure to catch her on Shark Tank airing on March 15th (you can find more details here)!

Tell us a little about you!

Hi there! I'm Saphira, a proud Kiwi who found her way to the US nine years ago, thanks to a swipe right on Tinder that led me to my wonderful husband. Now, we're making memories in Orange County with our adorable baby boy, Taio. My background's a bit eclectic, coming from a family steeped in astrology and homeopathy, which has definitely colored my approach to life and health.

What do you do for work? Tell us about your professional journey.

I've had quite the journey from the fashion world to where I am today. Modeling and working as a fashion buyer were my first loves, but a personal health journey turned my world upside down. Suddenly, those spirulina and flaxseed oils I grew up with (and didn't care for much back then) became my allies. Diving deep into healthy eating, starting a food blog, and healing my gut opened up a new passion. That's how Nowhere Bakery was born—a little dream of creating gut-friendly desserts that don't compromise on taste.

How do you stay motivated?

Knowing I'm making a difference keeps me fired up and ready to innovate every day but when you love what you do this much, it hardly feels like work.

Do you have any advice for someone who is interested in starting a business/blog?

Absolutely! Here's what I've learned:

  • Research: Dive deep into understanding who you're serving.
  • Passion: Let your love for what you do be your guide.
  • Consistency: Keep at it, even when it's tough.
  • Engagement: Your community is your best asset—cherish it.
  • Patience: Great things take time. Be gentle with yourself.

What are your favorite ways to #spreadgood in your community?

We love surprising the little ones with mini cookies when families come by. Giving back, especially to local events or places like the CHOC hospital, is our way of spreading joy and support.

Who is one person who inspires you and why?

My little guy, Taio. Every day, he's my reminder of what's truly important. Plus, he's the perfect antidote to taking life too seriously.

How do you work to stay centered and practice self-care in your busy day-to-day reality?

Balancing it all is a real juggle. There are days I'm glued to my computer, but carving out time for exercise and designating Sundays for rest helps me find some semblance of balance.

What do you like to do for fun, when you aren't working?

Disconnecting to reconnect—that's my motto. Whether it's game nights with friends, playdates at the park with Taio, or just enjoying the great outdoors, stepping away from screens is my reset button.

What are some of your favorite recipes with Ground Up?

A good nut butter brownie can solve a lot of problems, in my opinion. It's definitely a favorite in our house!
